Week 6 Analysis: LVH SuperContest

On Sunday, I made a couple of modest predictions.  I said the consensus would have a better week, and the consensus Top 5 would go 3-2 or 4-1.  Well, the consensus picked at 53.5%, which makes Week 6 the 2nd best picking week so far this year, and the consensus Top 5 picks went 3-2.

I had a good feeling going into Week 6 with our 5 picks.  We only went 3-2, but I felt like we took the RIGHT side in each of the games.  The Titans were covering for 55 minutes of their game and ended up winning outright.  The Bucs crushed the Chiefs.  The Packers crushed the Texans.  The Ravens and Patriots were each up double digits in the 4th quarter, but neither covered.  I’ll just pretend that means we’re going to get lucky and hit all 5 one of these weeks when a couple of our guys have the WRONG side.

My Thursday “Guessing of the Lines” picks went 3-0 again this week (Titans, Skins, Browns) to improve to 15-2 ON THE SEASON!  While I DID expect to hit those picks in the mid-50% range or higher all season, 88.2% is slightly outrageous.

Home underdogs went 3-0 ATS in Week 6 (67.2% for the year), while Road underdogs went 8-2 (61.6% for the year).   TRUST ME, at some point these numbers are going to regress.  Obviously I don’t know when that will be, since I’ve been saying I think it might start happening each of the last 3 or so weeks.

I have been following Dave Tuley (VIEWFROM VEGAS.COM) for the last few weeks.  As you can see, he jumped into a tie for 4th overall with his 2nd 5-0 week of the year.  There were 63 other contestants that joined Dave with a 5-0 week, and 39 contestants who went 0-5.

All teams have played at least a handful of games up to this point.  The true identities of most teams have been exposed.  From now through the rest of the season, you’ll see the upper tier SuperContest contestants start to post lots of 3s, 4s, and 5s.  Hopefully, THE BISNESS is one of those contestants.  After a rough 1st 3 weeks, we’ve gone 4-1, 3-2, and 3-2.  If we can average 10 points every 3 weeks for the rest of the season (something a bit easier to say and much more difficult to execute), we will arrive at our goal of 51 points (60%) and SHOULD get in the cash.

As I said before, underdogs continue to crush spreads and are now hitting at 62.8%.  Here’s the rest of the splits through Week 6.

A little birdy was chirpin’ about Herby discontinuing his Friday “LOCK OF THE WEEK” column after he lost 2 straight picks and dropped to .500 on the year.  Is Herby a quitter?  I guess we’ll find out Friday.

How are the rest of the guys picking through 6 weeks?

Everyone had a solid week.  Overall, the listed contestants went 24/35 (68.6%) this week. Expect most of these guys to continue with lots of 3s, 4s, and 5s for the rest of the season.

I’ll see ya in a couple of days when I take my stab at the Week 7 lines and tell you how MY misses should influence YOUR picks!
